The Silver Shadow Stakes
The 2015 Silver Shadow Stakes is a premier Group 2 horse race run annually in Australia. The race takes place at Royal Randwick Racecourse. Run in August, the Silver Shadow Stakes is one of the illustrious races included in the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival. The entire carnival offers you – the punter – a smorgasbord of non-stop action and betting opportunity.

The Sydney Spring Racing carnival involves races conducted by the Australian Turf Club – one of the nation’s most celebrated and highly distinguished racing clubs. The carnival’s events are spread out over three racecourses – Randwick, Rosehill and Warwick Farm. Following the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival, you can move on to the Caulfield Guineas a week later. The Silver Shadow Stakes is a Group 3 race for three year old fillies. Group 3 is one of four types of group races. The groups are categorised in order of prize money. Group 1 is the most esteemed and offers the highest in prize takings. Group 1’s prize money is at least $250,000 (Australian); Group 2 – $125,000 (Australian); Group 3 – $75,000; and, listed – $50,000 (Australian). The Silver Shadow Stakes takes place over 1200 metres and the fillies run under a set weight of 54 kilograms. Over the last five years, the Silver Shadow Stakes has produced the following winners: Samantha Miss (2008); Race Not Run (2007); Gold Edition (2006); Mnemosyne (2005); and Our Sweet Moss (2004).
Often the three year old fillies in the Silver Shadow Stakes use the race as a launch pad for the Group 2 Furious Stakes a fortnight later. The Furious Stakes is a 1400 metre race also run at the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival but at Randwick racecourse. The Silver Shadow Stakes is an indication as to how horses will perform in the Furious Stakes. There have been a number of previous runners that have won the Stakes and then gone on to win the Furious Stakes.
Warwick Farm Racetrack
The Silver Shadow Stakes was held at Warwick Farm Racecourse up until 2014. In the past, the location has changed variously between Warwick Farm, Randwick and Canterbury Park.
Warwick Farm racecourse is situated about thirty kilometres from Sydney’s centre. In fact, Warwick Farm is a Sydney suburb. Managed by the Australian Jockey Club, Warwick Farm is an Australian racing icon. The Australian Jockey Club was established in 1842. Warwick Farm was bought by the Australian Jockey Club in 1922. Approximately sixty race meetings are held by the Australian Jockey Club at both the Warwick Farm course and the Randwick Racetrack.
The track has a circumference of 1937 metres, with a straight of 326 metres. The track is famous for its quick turns. As such, those runners up front do well, whilst those at the back of the field tend to go wide as they make their way around the quick turns.
