Alpha Miss To Resume in 2014 Silver Shadow Stakes

August 5th, 2014

A notable performer over the 2014 Autumn Racing Carnival, exciting three-year-old Alpha Miss has claimed a strong Rosehill Gardens barrier trial ahead of a likely return to racing in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on August 23rd.

Securing three wins and one minor place from just six competitive race starts so far, Alpha Miss jumped from the barriers well in the 1030m trial, sitting in ideal position on the heels of early leader Rock Hero before comfortably spooling up and breaking clear of the pack to finish nearly four lengths in the clear of a field that included the likes of Sacred Falls and veteran My Kingdom Of Fife.

Understandably pleased with the ever-building form of the Lucky Owners filly, trainer Gary Nickson said jockey Jason Collett gave the three-year-old a glowing report, highlighting added strength gained during her time in the spelling paddock following a disappointing run for fourteenth in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) last time out.

“Jason hasn’t ridden her since the Golden Slipper and he said although he wasn’t sure if she is any taller, he could tell she had really thickened out and was a lot stronger,” Nickson told The Daily Telegraph.

“In the trial, he just let Alpha Miss trail behind Rock Hero, then gave her a squeeze on the turn and she won the trial without being pushed out.

“Jason was very impressive, which realty pleases me.”

More than stamping her claims as one to watch over her two maiden race starts late in the 2013 spring, Alpha Miss claimed comfortable victories in both the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) and Vein Plate (1000m) before returning to the paddock for a brief spell.

Running on to finish fourth in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) first-up on February 15th, the filly out of Soiree Girl returned to the winner’s circle when charging home to take honours in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m) on March 8th and claimed a credible third behind Earthquake and Mossfun in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) just a fortnight before the Golden Slipper.

Yet to be confirmed for a specific racing path this time in, Alpha Miss is currently available at generous odds of $34 for success in the featured Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) on September 13th with leading online bookie
