Arguably the standout performer of the 2014 two-year-old autumn season, Godolphin Racing Manager Jason Walsh has revealed talented filly Earthquake is on-track for a return to racing in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on August 23rd.
Securing an impressive total of four wins and one second place from her five competitive race starts so far, Earthquake returned to the spelling paddock after finishing a length off the pace of wet track specialist Mossfun in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 5th.
Understandably thrilled with the results of her maiden racing campaign, Walsh said Earthquake has completed two trials and is on course for the Silver Shadow in two weeks’ time.
“She has had her second trail,” Walsh told Sky Racing HQ on Friday morning.
“We had a private one out here at Agnes Banks, a five horse heat and we were very pleased with the way that she has come through it.
“We had a couple of other talented colts in it in Meursault and Kumaon who are both horses that we think have a big spring ahead of them and she sat in the one-one position and went on to win her trial nicely.
“Kerrin McEvoy was very pleased with her.
“At this stage we will head towards the Silver Shadow over 1200.
“That is where we plan on kicking her and Memorial off.
“Assuming she comes out of this morning fine that is where we will go.”
Debuting with a near-three length victory in the Colin Pearce 100th Birthday Plate (1000m) on November, Earthquake more than staked her claims as one to watch when charging home to win the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude F (1100m) first-up on February 8th before breaking through for a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 22nd.
Continuing on to another impressive win in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) prior to the Golden Slipper, Earthquake is yet to be confirmed for a racing path through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, but is currently offered as $6.50 favourite for success in early markets for the 2014 Golden Rose Stakes with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
