August 22nd, 2014

Just nine three-year-old fillies have been confirmed to line up for this weekend’s Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick, offering punters exceptional value from a betting point of view and several key opportunities to place a winning bet.

The standout performer over the two-year-old autumn season, Earthquake has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite for success; currently available at odds of $1.90 for success with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Bring Me The Maid ($3.70) and Memorial ($7).

Will Earthquake break-through for another impressive first-up victory in the 2014 Silver Shadow Stakes, or will one of her talented rivals secure a huge upset?

1st

Earthquake ($1.90)

Securing an exceptional record of four wins and one second place from her five competitive starts so far, Earthquake has been allocated the ideal barrier 2 and is close to a certainty of victory should she remain in the Silver Shadow’s field. Winning her debut race by close to three lengths in November, Earthquake immediately made an impressive upon returning to the track in 2014, winning the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) first-up before breaking through for a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 22nd. Continuing her perfect career start through the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m), Earthquake was unable to completely over the soaked Randwick track during the 2014 Golden Slipper, something that may lead to her withdrawal from this weekend, finishing second.

2nd

Bring Me The Maid ($3.70)

Also stamping her claims as a legitimate contender over major three-year-old events through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, Bring Me The Maid is a special to place second in the 2014 Silver Shadow Stakes, or win should Earthquake be removed from the final field. Debuting with an impressive victory in the Listed Sports 1000 (1000m) on March 1st, the Sebring filly was unlucky to be blocked for a run and third in the Listed St Albans Stakes (1200m) on March 14th, but responded in the best way possible in winning the Group 3 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) on March 29th; just one week before placing third in the Golden Slipper. Confirmed to be partnered by renowned jockey Luke Nolen, Bring Me The Maid is more than worth consideration for a wager at current odds.

3rd

Alpha Miss ($13)

The fairy tale story of the 2014 two-year-old autumn, Alpha Miss was purchased for just $6000, but has already returned her connections close to a quarter of a million dollars over just six race starts. Winning each of her first two runs, including the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) on debut, the Lucky Owners filly finished fourth in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) first-up this year before returning to the winner’s circle in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m) on March 8th. Arguably most impressive when third in the Reisling Stakes, trainer Gary Nickson has been pleased with the way Alpha Miss has returned to work and is confident in a polished first-up performance in the 2014 Silver Shadow Stakes.
