2015 Silver Shadow Stakes Likely for Fireworks

July 15th, 2015

Fireworks was a standout performer for Gerald Ryan through the Autumn Racing Carnival, and the Rosehill Gardens-based trainer has revealed the rising three-year-old is likely to returned to racing in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) on August 22nd.

Fireworks has finished outside the first three only once in five career starts, and undoubtedly stamped her claims as one to watch when charging home to win the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) on January 31st; a race taken out by Mossfun in 2014 on her way to success in the major Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m).

While returning to the paddock following a disappointing run for eleventh in the Golden Slipper on March 21st, Ryan has been thrilled with the benefit taken  by the daughter of Snitzel in the paddock and revealed she is working towards a racing return in the 2015 Silver Shadow Stakes.

“She’s done really well,” Ryan told Racing Ahead.

“We went to the Slipper with her then she went to the paddock and was able to have ten weeks out.

“She’s come up really well, she’s a lot stronger, a lot bigger feed, looks really well and will probably go through the Princess series; first-up in the Silver Shadow.

“It’s the 20th of August I think; that will be her going.

“I think she’ll get to 1400m and whether she runs a mile or not I don’t know – her pedigree says she would.”

Performing well in a pair of Sydney barrier trials prior to her racing debut, Fireworks placed a competitive second behind New Wings in the Entertainment Grounds Maiden (1000m) on December 29th; progressing to a credible third behind Holler and Encosta Line in the Hyland Race Colours Plate (1100m) a fortnight prior to the Widden Stakes.

Drawn alongside a talented field of nine in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) in her only other start prior to the Golden Slipper on March 7th, Fireworks was unlucky to be blocked for a run rounding onto the final straight but mustered a strong turn of foot to finish fourth.
